Office Tips & Tricks: Remix! and formatting with Sway

Using cell comments in Excel (10)

If you’ve used Sway, Microsoft’s visual storytelling/presentation program you’ll know that its auto-formatting function can be a great time saver.

But what if (like me) you’d prefer to have a bit more control over the formatting? Well there are a few things you can do:

  1. The Design button lets you choose from a range of pre-set themes. Or try clicking Customise within the Design pane to set more detailed formatting such as font type, colour palette etc.
  2. The Layout button allows you to choose from 3 basic layouts: a horizontal scroll, a vertical scroll and a horizontal view where the upcoming slide ‘peeks in’.
  3. Click the Remix! button from the toolbar to experiment with different layouts, fonts and colours. Each time you click Remix!, Sway will show a different view.

Personally I still find Sway’s formatting options rather limited compared to PowerPoint, but if you can accept Sway’s attempts to make formatting decisions for you it can certainly save you time. And if not, there’s always PowerPoint…..
