Changing the Learning Landscape- Final report available

I’m presenting at the inaugural NTU Course Leaders Conference this year on the work that NTU has been doing with the Changing the Learning Landscape Programme. The aim of the programme is to help institutions create a step-change within their organisations in their approaches to technology in learning and teaching. NTU was awarded one of the Strand 2 consultancy projects and we’ve been working with CLL consultants, Myles Danson from Jisc, Jess Potteckr from NUS and Helen Beetham to look at Digital Literacy as a Core Competency for both staff and students.

Through a staff-student workshop and an institutional audit using the Jisc Developing Digital Literacies Institutional Audit  we were able to put forward some recommendations for senior colleagues at NTU to consider and develop a plan of action for how we want to move Digital Literacy forward at NTU. The discussions came up with four keys themes for us to work on:

  • There is a substantial amount of activity already happening at NTU. We need to celebrate our success more.
  •  There is an opportunity to make digital literacy skills and competencies clearer for both staff and students focussed at the course level.
  • Ensure that the support available for staff and students is appropriate and ensure that it is clearly communicated across the institution
  • Foster a culture of innovative digital practice and reward and celebrate individual achievements

Work is already progressing to get some of the activity addressing these themes under way. Participation in the Changing the Learning Landscape has also resulted in NTU being successful in a small scale Embedding Learning Technology Bid and a follow-on one day consultancy with senior colleagues to discuss some of the strategic issues in more detail.

The full report is available via Sharing Beyond NTU’s open repository and if you’re interested in learning more about the project and what support is available for you regarding Digital Literacy or Digital Practice contact cpldenquiries@ntu.ac.uk
